Wedding Feature: Laura & Michael’s Elegant Wedding at The Brae Loch Inn

On September 5th, 2021, Laura & Michael said “I do!” We were so honored to play at their gorgeous wedding reception at The Brae Loch Inn, located in Cazenovia, NY. It featured the inn’s sprawling green lawns, spacious seating, and an overall feeling of airiness and ease.

We are excited to share their journey as a couple: how they met, and how they managed to create an incredible final result filled with joy and love.

Tell us the story of how you two met! Mike and I met in the summer of 2013 after some good ‘ol online dating. I told him that I spoke French (to be fair, he did not ask what level of French) and he took me to a French restaurant. The night was full of a lot of laughing and we have not gone a day since without talking or planning our next adventure.

What made you decide that this was the right person to be with for the rest of your life?
Laura: Mike is a really happy, positive person. He sees the good in anyone and any situation and is very loyal. I realized how honest he always was with me and how much he cared about our relationship and over eight years later, that hasn’t changed.
Mike: It was always easy to be around each other and have fun no matter what we were doing. We envisioned the same life together early on and I knew fairly quickly that she was going to be my wife.

What do you enjoy most about each other’s company?
Laura: I love that Mike makes anything and everything fun. Sometimes our favorite days are running errands together, cooking a nice meal, and watching our latest TV show or a movie. He really appreciates the simple things and that has rubbed off on me.
Mike: I love how I can talk to Laura about anything, no matter how trivial or serious it is. Whether it is a funny video or article or a serious topic about a challenge, she is my go-to person and will always listen and want to know more.

How was your experience with Silver Arrow Band?
Silver Arrow was probably our favorite vendor. They made the planning process so easy with the portal and were always around to answer questions and take specific requests. I appreciated that some of the band members even took the time to chat with us after our ceremony and say congrats, knowing we needed a few minutes to just chill and catch our breath. At the end of the night, they could have kept playing for hours – the dance floor was never empty!

What was your favorite song you danced to at your wedding?
Sweet Caroline was epic, especially because Mike is such a huge Red Sox fan. Another favorite was September.

Share one special memory from your wedding with us.
Our final song was “Don’t Stop Believing.” Once that song started, all of our friends and family surrounded us on the dance floor and we could just feel all of the love and support from them. We looked at each other with such happiness that we got to have our big day and that it went off beautifully. The weather was incredible and perfect for an outdoor wedding, guests were having a blast, and everyone was just full of love, gratitude, and excitement. Shoving cake into each other’s faces was pretty awesome too.

Do you have any advice for couples as they plan for their wedding? When you are planning a wedding, it is easy to get caught up in what you think are the “trends” and what other people want, be it your friends or family or what you see on Instagram. Plan your wedding as YOU want as a couple. The day is a representation of you and your love. Even if you get challenged in your decisions from others, stick to your gut what you envisioned. Know that there might be a few glitches and that’s ok. The best compliment we got after our wedding was “It was such an incredible time because it wasn’t a cookie-cutter wedding” and that’s exactly what we were going for! Do it the way you as a couple see fit – the rest will just fall into place.
